LiFePO4 vs lead-acid: ask whether the system is compatible first.
LiFePO4 can be an effective deep-cycle replacement direction, but comparison should move beyond a nominal Ah label. Evaluate usable energy, current, charging, temperature, installation and final product documents.
Five questions for a B2B conversion project
- Is the existing battery a deep-cycle auxiliary battery or a dedicated engine-starting battery?
- Does the new battery's voltage and approved charging profile fit all charge sources?
- Can the battery's continuous/peak current meet the actual DC and inverter loads?
- Will it fit the enclosure, terminals, cable design and operating temperature range?
- Are the final product documents appropriate for the intended market and shipment?
Compare energy in Wh, not only Ah
Voltage matters. A 12.8V 100Ah battery is nominally 1.28kWh, while a 25.6V 100Ah battery is nominally 2.56kWh. The right reference is the system's daily Wh consumption, required autonomy and recharging opportunity, not a direct copy of an old lead-acid capacity label.
